Cook Training Programme

Hotel, Restaurant and Catering Services, Cook Training Programme provides you with the basic knowledge of both theory and practice of the hospitality industry. It enables you to become a worker in different type of customer service work that includes the preparation of food, waitering, sales, serving alcohol and other beverages. It also gives you a base for working in the reception and chambermaid duties.

During this study you will specialise and obtain the necessary qualification to become a cook. You will amongst other skills learn how to plan and prepare tasty, healthy and diverse food taking the gastronomic requirements into account. The course will also cover serving at a banquette or in a fine dining restaurant.

In addition from working in a restaurant you will obtain skills to work in personnel restaurants, hotels and outside catering companies (banqueting).

The education is carried out in the Vocational Institute, Vaasa, but the work practice periods that are held in the companies will make up an important part of the education. This qualification will also give you a good basis for continuing studies, if you wish to achieve a further degree in professional or continuing education in the future.

How is the education arranged?

The theory periods in the institute are mainly held during the day (Monday-Friday). On-The-Job Learning periods are carried out during evening times and weekends due to the nature and rhythm of the professional field.

You will study the following modules during the programme:

 

  • Vocational Studies of the Programme 90 cu
  • Studies Supplementing Vocational Skills 20 cu
  • Free Choice Studies 10 cu
  • On-The-Job Learning andVocational Skills Demonstration

 

During the programme the students will also study languages such as Finnish, Swedish, English. The programme is based on the requirements of the Finnish Board of Education and is educating people for work in the Finnish and the International Hotel- and Catering Industry.

A personal study programme is made for each student based on his/ her previous experience and studies.
