The education is specially planned for the Finnish students who want to improve their English language skills and obtain the diploma in English and for the young people from the European countries, interested in Finland and the Finnish culture. And the foreign students with the Finnish Residence permit, the basics skills in Finnish or Swedish language will be taken into account (a merit). English skills must be excellent, since all the lessons will be held in English.
Entry requirements for the Vocational Qualification in Hotel and Restaurant Services programme are the general school Leaving Certificate / High School Certificate or acceptable alternative. Please, enclose transcript of the certificates. Vaasa Vocational Institute requires that the student should have a excellent command of the English language and have excellent knowledge in reading, writing and speaking of the English language in order to be able to study at the institute.
If in any case the language requirements, health documents or residence permit to Finland are not met, Vaasa Vocational Institute will not be able to accept you.
The successful applicants will be required to show a Doctor’s Statement certificate for their health (suitable to this field) and also a certificate of a negative salmonella test when the school starts (taken in Finland). Health requirements >>
The candidates in Finland will possibly be called for an interview in April 2012. The applicant has to deliver an acceptable certificate of her/his language skills (English) for example TOEFL, IELTS etc. or indicate sufficient knowledge in the interview.
The Finnish Local Police are responsible for the granting of a fixed-term residence permit for a foreign student for the period of one year (the maximum at a time). Student themselves must apply for a residence permit. EU-Citizens and equivalent persons do not need a residence permit, but they must register their right to reside in Finland.

Persons coming to Finland for the purpose of only studying are not permanent residents in Finland. Thus, they are not entitled to the government-funded social benefits (such as the students financial aid).
